Are there any recommended server specifications for hosting your compiled solution?

We plan to deploy Fleet Stack on either a cloud or on-prem server.

Could you please provide the minimal CPU, RAM, and storage requirements for hosting the compiled solution for different fleet sizes—say, 100 devices versus 1,000 devices?

Additionally, is there an auto-scaling approach available if the fleet grows quickly?

Thank you for your question! While our compiled solution is designed to be resource-efficient, the recommended server specifications do vary based on fleet size and usage. Below is a tentative guideline based on our testing under ideal conditions:

Fleet SizeCPURAMStorage (HDD)Internet Bandwidth
Up to 100 Devices2 cores6 GB100–250 GBMinimum 25 Mbit/s
Up to 1,000 Devices2 cores8 GB250–500 GB (RAID1 recommended)Minimum 25 Mbit/s

Note:

  • These specifications are provided as a baseline. Actual requirements can vary depending on additional factors such as data processing, frequency of location updates, and backup routines.
  • For deployments with rapid growth, many cloud providers offer auto-scaling features that can help adjust resources dynamically. While our solution itself is compiled, it is designed with a modular architecture. This means you can take advantage of your provider’s auto-scaling groups (e.g., AWS Auto Scaling, Azure Scale Sets) to add or remove server resources as needed.

In summary, for a smaller fleet (around 100 devices), a server with 2 cores, 6 GB of RAM, and around 100–250 GB of storage should suffice. For larger fleets of around 1,000 devices, you’d ideally require 2 cores, 8 GB of RAM, and 250–500 GB of storage with a reliable RAID setup, plus appropriate network bandwidth.

If your fleet is expected to grow quickly, leveraging auto-scaling through your chosen cloud provider can help maintain performance without manual intervention.

Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or need assistance in tailoring these recommendations to your specific environment!
